Follow Your Dreams , If You Can

This is a work from the famous street artist Banksy. It is made on a gray wall in Boston. There is a stenciled figure with a brush and bucket standing next to the spray-painted cliché 'Follow your dreams.' But the message has been stamped over with the word 'CANCELLED', outlined in red. And of course the word 'CANCELLED' is what gives the big effect to this graffiti work.
I liked this work a lot. First of all it has a nice and clear message and the viewer can get the message at first sight. It looks nice, in this way it draws attention. When people see it, they wouldn't just keep going on their way, they would stop and stare. So, it makes people think.
As I understand, the point that the artist would like to make is that nowadays it is hard to follow our dreams. The system makes it really hard for us. We have to work hard to have a good life. There are stereotypes that we have to live if we want to have a comfortable life. If you want to be an artist, it is really hard to earn money. It doesn't matter if it is your dream or not. If you can't make money, you can't even keep doing your art. It's all about the system. So, the artist wants to draw attention to this issue and I think it also does it very well.
